As requested by the social partners, the pension calculation age was raised to 68 with effect from January 1st. As a result of this, your annual pension accrual is increasing from 1.738% to 1.875%. This increase means that you will accrue the highest possible pension within the constraints of tax law.

SABIC has asked SPF to convert your retirement pension entitlements at the age of 67 to 68. This increases your pension. No money is lost as a result of this conversion. The total value of your pension entitlements does not change. You can still choose to retire before you reach the age of 68.

There are also some other changes that came into effect on January 1, 2019. First of all, missed indexing no longer expires after 10 years. If SPF cannot index your pension, we call this 'missed indexing'. The fund may still grant this indexing if the policy funding level is high enough. This is called catch-up indexation. Previously, missed indexing expired after 10 years. This rule was removed from the pension regulations on January 1st. From now on, all missed indexing remains eligible for catch-up indexing.

The second change concerns the special partner's pension: the partner's pension that is shared after a divorce. From now on this special partner's pension will be returned to the main policyholder - with retroactive effect to January 1, 2015 - if the ex-partner dies sooner. If you are the main policyholder and your former partner dies sooner, the special partner's pension reverts to you. You can use this part of the partner's pension for a new partner. This change applies for as long as you have not yet retired.
