Having been appointed by the Board, Arnout Korteweg (60) will become the SPF's new Chairman as of May 1, 2020. We received approval from De Nederlandsche Bank on Friday, April 17, 2020, with the Supervisory Board sending their approval of Arnout's nomination before that date. Arnout is being appointed as an independent Chairman of the Board, as he has not previously worked for SABIC or the SABIC pension fund. The Board opted for this external appointment in 2018 because the position of Chairman is so demanding that it is very difficult to do in addition to regular work within the company.
Arnout is an experienced and committed Board member and also has extensive experience in the pensions sector. In addition to management positions at Hewitt and Mercer, in recent years he has been active as an executive director at De Nationale APF pension fund (founded in 2016 by NNIP and AZL). He recently stepped down from this position, as he wants to concentrate more on the Board than on policy implementation. Arnout is extremely well versed in pension-related matters and has sufficient time and scope to fulfil the role of Chairman at SPF.
Arnout is married to Babs Boelens and lives in the leafy Veluwe region of the Netherlands.
They like to walk with their dog and enjoy traveling.
We will introduce Arnout in one of our following newsletters.
